| Video Discription | A renewed nuclear warning from Russian President Vladimir Putin. This in his first face-to-face meeting with senior editors of international news agencies since the invasion of Ukraine. Putin also warned he could deploy long-range conventional missiles within striking distance of the United States and its European allies if they allowed Ukraine to strike deeper into Russia with long-range Western weapons. In a separate development a U.S. official has said, "we anticipate this summer, Russia will conduct heightened naval and air activity near the United States. These actions will culminate in a global Russian naval exercise." The exercises, near the U.S. are expected to involve port calls in Cuba and Venezuela. Putin's threats come just days after Washington and Berlin reversed their long-standing policies to allow Ukraine to launch strikes with American and German weapons. Other major allies supplying Ukraine, including the UK and France, had already authorized such strikes. President Joe Biden has authorized Kyiv to launch some U.S.-supplied weapons at military targets inside Russia. Washington still prohibits Kyiv from striking Russia with army tactical missile systems and other long-range U.S.-supplied weapons. ATACMS have a range of up to 300 km. Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, currently in Qatar, has been increasing pressure on his Western allies. He wants to be able to launch offensive strikes at military targets inside Russia to better repel Russian advances. Russia has been periodically displaying Western weapons captured in Ukraine. They include U.S., German and French tanks supplied to Ukraine. The U.S. sent Ukraine about 47 billion dollars in military aid between February 2022 and February 2024, according to the Kiel Institute for the World Economy. A new package initially delayed by Congress this year has about 25 billion dollars more in equipment.
