The weekend of the 11th November 2022 marked the 4 year anniversary between me and my girlfriend. There could have been a thousand cute ways to spend such an occasion, but I think heading down to the outskirts of Berlin, Germany, to experience a 200km derby influenced by different political ideologies is definitely romantic - Even more so when both teams were formally apart of the DDR football league. Largely influenced by the book '1312' by James Montague and also 'The Turning Season' by Michael Wagg. This was a great game to explain what happens when football and politics mix. And also to expeirnece some former Eastern German bloc football. SV Babelsberg 03, based in the fourth level of the German football league who are fighting the good fight against racism, Neo Nazism and right wing ideology in German Football Vs Chemnitz FC, 1967 DDR Oberliga champions, and a club who in contemporary times have been reported to adopt right wing values in light of the political changes around since the reunification of the German state.
