WHAT IS THE CHASE TRIFECTA? (CHASE TRIFECTA EXPLAINED)
The Chase Trifecta is…
- Any combination of 3 Chase credit cards
- All earning Ultimate Rewards (UR) points
- Used together to maximize rewards
CHASE TRIFECTA EXAMPLES
1. Personal Credit Cards (example 1)
- Chase Freedom Flex
- Chase Freedom Unlimited
- Chase Sapphire Preferred
2. Personal Credit Cards (example 2)
- Chase Freedom Flex
- Chase Freedom Unlimited
- Chase Sapphire Reserve
3. Business Credit Cards
- Chase Ink Business Cash
- Chase Ink Business Unlimited
- Chase Ink Business Preferred
4. Personal + Business Credit Cards (mixed)
- Chase Freedom Unlimited
- Chase Ink Business Cash
- Chase Sapphire Preferred
WHY USE THE CHASE TRIFECTA SETUP?
- To maximize rewards by using the right card, at the right time, for the right purchase
HOW IT WORKS
- Notice how some Chase cards have overlapping rewards categories, but other categories are NOT shared.
- It’s those unique categories that allow you to earn extra points (i.e. more than 1X) in select categories that 1 card alone wouldn’t cover.
- For example, if you spend a lot at drugstores but only have the Chase Sapphire Preferred, you’d be earning 1X points on all your drugstore purchases. But if you add one of the Chase Freedom cards, you’d earn 3X on those same purchases.
- Using multiple cards to cover multiple spend categories allows you to earn rewards a lot faster!
- PLUS, you can pool / combine points across all your cards into 1 balance!
VALUE OF POOLING / COMBINING POINTS
- Chase’s premium cards (with annual fees) make points earned across ALL CARDS worth MORE
for certain redemptions!
- Chase Sapphire Preferred ($95 annual fee): Get 25% more value | 1 point = 1.25¢
- Chase Sapphire Reserve ($550 annual fee): Get 50% more value | 1 point = 1.50¢
- Chase Ink Business Preferred ($95 annual fee): Get 25% more value | 1 point = 1.25¢
HOW TO GET MORE VALUE
a. Get a premium Chase card (i.e. one with a $95 annual fee or higher)
b. Redeem points for Travel or via Pay Yourself Back feature (i.e. cash back via statement credit in select categories)
This means the value of 10,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards would be:
$100 for regular cash back
$125 - $150 for travel via Ultimate Rewards portal
$125 - $150 via Pay Yourself Back categories
HOW TO REDEEM CHASE ULTIMATE REWARDS POINTS FOR BIGGER VALUE
1. Log into your Chase account
2. Click on your points balance to go to the Ultimate Rewards portal
3. Go to the Main Menu and select Travel or Pay Yourself Back
4. Points automatically worth 25% or 50% more when you redeem via these methods with a card that has a $95 annual fee or greater.
HOW TO COMBINE CHASE FREEDOM AND SAPPHIRE POINTS (& INK BUSINESS POINTS)
1. Log into your Chase account
2. Click on your points balance to go to the Ultimate Rewards portal
3. Go to the Main Menu and select Combine Points (likely at the bottom)
4. Go through the prompts to transfer points from 1 card to another (remember to transfer TO a card that gives the 25% - 50% boost in value)
WHICH CHASE TRIFECTA SHOULD YOU GET?
- The one that rewards YOU best in the categories YOU spend most.
- Pro Tip: It’s usually best to include a card that earns 1.5X or better on all purchases to ensure you can always earn more than 1 point per dollar spent.
