The Charles Ford Band, three brothers and a friend from Ukiah, California with extraordinary enthusiasm and energy, played gritty and accomplished urban blues at bars and clubs in the San Francisco Bay Area. These recordings made in early 1972 showcase a young Robben Ford, now considered an authentic guitar legend emulated and revered by a whole generation of young blues guitarists, backed by Pat Ford's dynamic drums, Mark Ford's gutsy and exuberant harmonica and Stan Poplin's rock solid bass. This mournful tune was originally and recorded by Memphis Slim in 1949. It was his second major R&B chart hit after "Messin' Around". Harmonica legend Little Walter recorded a version as the B side to his 1965 single "Mean Ole Frisco."
