| Video Discription | Capsule Endoscopy is a new method of seeing the small intestine. It is just like a capsule with 2 cameras in the front and the back. Once we ingest just like any capsule how we take, we take a glass of water and put that capsule in the mouth and then we need to swallow that. That capsule goes into the food pipe, stomach and intestine. It will start taking pictures through its course and it will carry images for almost upto 17 to18 hours. So what are the indications for Capsule Endoscopy? Indications are when there are small intestine problems, endoscopy, colonoscopy and CT scan are done and when we find some problems in the small intestine, then Capsule Endoscopy is done. It is done basically for the detection of anemia. Sometimes endoscopy, colonoscopy may be normal, but small intestine. There may be thickening and here we use Capsule Endoscopy. There may be bleeding happening in the small intestine, we use Capsule Endoscopy. Similarly there will be ulcers in the small intestine like Crohn’s disease. That will be detected by Capsule Endoscopy. But remember that before a Capsule Endoscopy, an endoscopy, colonoscopy and CT scan is mandatory to be sure that we see the small intestine properly. |
