| Video Discription | The kings of Assyria located their palaces at Nineveh, modern day Mosel in Iraq. The kings interacted with the northern tribes of Israel and southern tribes of Judah for centuries. These conflicts are recorded in the historical narrative of the Bible and written in the cuneiform language on artefacts found at the different palaces at Nineveh. These include the Black Obelisk showing Israelite King Jehu, the Kurkh Stela, a monument to Shalmaneser III, reliefs showing Tiglath-pileser III, Sargon II, his son Sennacherib, and the famous reliefs from the conquest of Lachish. The Taylor Prism, records Israelite King Hezekiah being trapped in Jerusalem like a bird in a cage by Sennacherib. These artefacts are on display at the British Museum in London. The archaeological excavations of Nineveh started in the 1920’s, this film footage captures the day to day life at and around the site, as they dig down to King Ashurnasirpal’s Palace. |
