She was most seen as a leading actress in the Kannada film industry during the late 1960s to 1980s. Besides these languages, she also featured in Marathi films. Bharathi was born in a Marathi-speaking family in Karnataka. She was married to the legendary actor of Kannada cinema Vishnuvardhan on 27 February 1975 in Bengaluru.
