Top 5 Best Flip Phones of 2024
5- Motorola Razr/Razr 40
When Samsung slashed the price of the Galaxy Z Flip line below $1000, it was hailed as a breakthrough, marking the entry of foldable phones into the affordable category. The debate over whether $999 is truly affordable aside, it undeniably propelled the market forward. Fast forward a few years, and now we have the first genuinely affordable flip phone—the Motorola Razr 40 (known simply as the Motorola Razr (2023) in the United States). Priced at just $699, it's more budget-friendly than many non-folding flagship phones. Granted, it's a mid range device overall, but it provides a taste of the flip experience without breaking the bank. It serves as an excellent entry point into the world of flexible-display smartphones, allowing users to upgrade to a more capable and expensive model after a year or two if they so desire.
4- Huawei P50 Pocket
Let's not overlook the fact that flip phones were initially designed to resemble makeup compacts (also known as flapjacks). While we can no longer categorize a particular smartphone model as "girly," we can assert that the Huawei P50 Pocket is an exceptionally stylish device, as appreciated by our author Iskra (who happens to be a woman). To some extent, it may be an exercise in vanity, but in a world where smartphones often appear similar and occasionally mundane, a bit of panache is welcomed. The Huawei P50 Pocket boasts a splendid screen, a highly capable camera system, and fast wired charging. On the downside, it comes with an older Snapdragon 888 chipset, lacks 5G capabilities, and, of course, doesn't feature Google Services onboard. Nevertheless, it's undeniably a visually appealing device.
3- Oppo Find N3 Flip
The Oppo Find N2 Flip comes remarkably close to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 and might even be preferred by some. Equipped with a Mediatek Dimensity 9000+ chipset, a 120Hz 6.8” AMOLED screen, and a less conspicuous mid-screen crease, it offers a fantastic visual experience and seamless performance. The 4300mAh battery, the largest on our list, supports fast charging but not wireless charging, providing over a day of moderate use. Although slightly pricier than the Flip4, it comes in astral black, moonlit purple, and gold, offering fewer color options. We recommend this device for those who aren't keen on Samsung devices or are looking for something a bit distinct from the mainstream.
2- Motorola Razr Plus
Featuring the largest and most practical cover screen in any foldable of this form factor, the Razr Plus boasts a 3.6-inch front screen that offers numerous functionalities without the need to open the phone. Addressing the first issue from above, this phone is a great blend of practicality and innovation. Further down the specifications, the Razr Plus offers a vibrant 6.9-inch main display with a 165Hz refresh rate, a flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, a substantial 3,800mAh battery, and two commendable cameras on the back.
1- Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5
In most aspects, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 represents an upgrade over the Flip 4. Notably, the Flip 5 features a significantly larger window on the back, with no gaps when folded, ensuring a seamless closure without the risk of dust or debris entering. The Flip 5 excels in photography with fantastic cameras, aided by AI technology for better quality in low light. As a new flagship model, it comes at a premium price, but the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, enhanced graphics, video performance, and ample storage options make it a worthwhile investment. The color choices, including cream, grey, and classic lavender, add to its aesthetic appeal.
