Society has responded rather tepidly to the dangers of climate change, except for good examples like California and Sweden which have shown the world how to reduce emissions of carbon dioxide and other climate pollutants and still enjoy prosperous economies. Using data collected over the last three decades, I have concluded that unchecked climate change poses serious threats for our children and grand-children. However, there is still time to avoid catastrophic changes. I will describe ten solutions (developed with a team of fifty faculty from the University of California system), which if implemented with urgency, can protect the people as well as the ecosystems. |
