The option with the most votes was London at 14 votes, followed by Barcelona with 11 votes, and Paris, which was the favorite destination of nine people in the class. The teacher was, however, very surprised, saying that there was an unusual vote in the survey that had got a single vote. That vote was obviously mine, and that won me a trip to the school therapist as the teacher just couldn't believe that 10-year-old me would ever want to go on a 5-day school trip to Minsk, the capital of Belarus. But the truth was I've always been very captivated by the mysterious aura surrounding Belarus, a country that is right there in the middle of Europe but that we know very little about. A few years later, I then decided to have my own independent trip to Belarus while hitting two birds with one stone. Not only was I going to have the chance to visit a place that I had wanted to visit for many, many years, but I would have also traveled on one of the rarest airlines in Europe, Belavia. |
