| Video Discription | 🔎 FAQ: https://justinesmic.carrd.co/#faq ☕️ SUPPORT MY WORK: https://ko-fi.com/justinesmic the idea for this cover was entirely birthed by my recent obsession with the 2022 adaptation of "a league of their own." i think i remember seeing a fan cam of d'arcy carden as greta gill, and then going down an entire rabbit hole of figuring out what her character was from and what it was about. a quick synopsis from wikipedia: "The series, set in 1943, is about the formation of the Rockford Peaches, a women's team in the nascent All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. Carson Shaw leaves her small town life to pursue her dream of playing professional baseball, while her husband is away at war. Maxine Chapman is an African-American woman obsessed with baseball, who cannot even get people to allow her to try-out and struggles to get considered for any baseball team." needless to say, i quickly fell in love with the relationship between the characters carson shaw (played by abbi jacobson) and greta gill (played by d'arcy carden). for a while, i had actually fantasized about doing a cover of "bei mir bist du schoen" and centering it around them. the idea came to me from my knowledge of the play, "indecent," and the way that the song was used there. "indecent" spans from 1906 to 1953, and in the play this song is sung by the sapphic characters, reina and dine. with the way "indecent" visits the same time period as ALOTO and includes a story about gay women, i was inspired to apply this song to carson and greta. it all started off as a small, whimsical idea, and then my obsession with it took over and drove me to make it a reality. some special thankses: 💗 special thanks to @annapantsu for being so gracious to join me on this cover. i thought of you when coming up with this idea because i saw you liked jazz, and i just thought your voice would work so well with the harmonies and style of this song. thank you for listening to me excitedly talk about this cover over discord. 💗 special thanks to @GezeusQuiryst for mixing this cover. you were an absolute delight to work with, and you were probably the first person to compliment me by saying my vocals were "cracked" (i'll be using that more often!). 💗 special thanks to @maddiedrawz, who i commissioned to draw the art of carson and greta used here. it was so nice to be able to work with a fellow fan of ALOTO, and you were such joy and fun to talk to throughout the process of working on this. 🎶 COVER CREDITS — Original song by Jacob Jacobs.
