| Video Discription | During the Second World War there was a cliff on Saipan which became known as 'The Banzai Cliff.' This is a 600 foot rock face and during the Battle of Saipan hundreds of Japanese civilians and soldiers plunged off the cliff to avoid capture at the hands of the US Army. The Japanese people thought dishonour would be brought on their family if they surrendered or were captured, but the Banzai Cliff claimed hundreds of lives.
