Aviemore is conveniently located, just off the A9, around 30 miles south east of lnverness and is the gateway to the Cairngorms National Park. Aviemore started life as a small inn on the old Wade military road and grew as a village with the arrival of the railway in the 19 century. It’s extremely handy for the Cairngorms skiing area and mountain railway, which are just 9 miles to the east of Aviemore. One of the most popular walking spots is Loch an Eilean, on the Rothiemurchus Estate, 3.5 miles to the south.
