AVARICE not only takes its inspiration from great western films of the 20th Century, but is also influenced by a diverse array of genres and media. While also bringing a fresh and modern perspective on silent movies, with the music taking centre stage, ebbing and flowing throughout. AVARICE - THE WESTERN SHORT FILM (RE-UPLOAD) Set in the American Frontier of the mid-1870s, AVARICE follows a gang of masked outlaws, post-heist as the temptation of greed for their plunder starts to boil. (Filmed in 6 hours on the Panasonic GH5S and GH5 - 4K 3840x1634 @ 250MBPS - UPLOAD) Behind-the-scenes notes. I took inspiration from traditional and modern Westerns, for example: Sergio Leone’s The Dollars Trilogy, ‘Once Upon A Time In The West’ and ‘The Wild Bunch’, and more recent Westerns such as ‘The Hateful Eight’, ‘The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford’, and ‘The Ballad of Buster Scruggs’. However, my inspiration was not limited to Westerns - I also looked into a variety of other genres and media, for example: ‘Pulp Fiction’, ‘The Shining’, Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth’, ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’ and also the use of music in 'Baby Driver' the series ‘Peaky Blinders’ and just the soundtrack in ‘Dead Man'. https://www.dmoffest.com/post/avarice |
