Today's Matinee Show brings you the BARGAD interview - our long-form cinema interview segment. Our first BARGAD interview is with noted theatre & film actor and motivational speaker Ashish Vidyarthi. He has won a National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor for film Drohkaal directed by Govind Nahalani. But Ashish Vidyarthi is most popular for his role in Ziddi (1997) where he played evil brother-in-law Inder of Sunny Deol's character. Ashish Vidyarthi has also done films like Naajayaz, Jeet, Is Raat Ke Subah Nahin, Daud, Major Saab, Soldier, Bichhoo, Yamraaj, Haseena Maan Jaayegi, Arjun Pandit, Jaanwar, Vaasatav, Badal, Kaho Naa Pyar Hai, Refugee, LOC: Kargil, Jaal The Trap, Rakta Charitra, Barfi, and Haider. Since 2001, Ashish Vidyarthi has so many Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and other language films. In South Indian film industries he has worked with Vikram in Dhill (2001, Tamil), with Vijay in Ghilli (2004, Tamil), with Mahesh Babu in Pokiri (2006, Telugu, remade in Hindi as Wanted), with Allu Arjun and Arya in Varudu (2010, Telugu), with Ravi Teja in Kick 2 (2015, Telugu), with Mohanlal and N. T. Rama Rao Jr. in Janatha Garage (2016, Telugu) and many more films.
In this BARGAD interview (part 2) with The Lallantop Editor Saurabh Dwivedi, Ashish Vidyarthi talks about his days at National School of Drama and his seniors Irrfan Khan and Tigmanshu Dhulia. What part theatre guru Satyadev Dubey played in his life? When he sat in mud to show his acting skills to director Saeed Akhtar Mirza. Working for platform theatre started by Sanjana Kapoor, meeting Makrand Deshpande, getting role in Mahesh Bhatt film Naajayaz starring Ajay Devgn and Naseeruddin Shah. Ashish Vidyarthi shares how working in a scene of Drohkaal he banged his head on wall and later collapsed and was admitted to a hospital for more than a week. Then later he got National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor for Govind Nihalani's Drohkaal but had no money to host people. He tells the story of preparing for Nadira Babbar's play Daya Shankar Ki Diary while shooting for Bobby Deol starrer film Soldier in Bikaner. How he met his wife Piloo and fell in love. Working in Sunny Deol film Ziddi and playing the despicable villain Inder which made in popular. Learning from action director Tinu Verma how to die in a film so well. Doing an action sequence of Bichhoo. How he was cast in Vikram starrer Tamil film Dhill which opened the gates of South Cinema for him. Ashish Vidyarthi also spills the beans as to how he did so many Tamil, Telugu films without knowing the languages. One instance when he almost died shooting for a film. And, also how he became a motivational speaker by accident.
