See, during the Congress rule, under the Property Duty Act 1953, if a person's property was more than 20 lakhs, then after his death, his heirs had to pay 'property duty' up to 85% of the value of the inherited property! This was a plan to eliminate economic inequality in India! But in the year 1985, the Finance Minister VP Singh repealed this law saying that this tax has not achieved its goal of reducing economic inequality! Apart from this, many people had also filed cases against this tax in those days! Due to which the government had to bow down!
