So, the question is, why did they launch MiniTV when they already have Prime Video? The primary purpose of launching Prime subscription was to create an ecosystem around Amazon that would increase the value of their Prime subscription Amazon is actually losing money on Prime videos.They know that the more time users spend within their ecosystem, the more likely they are to make a purchase. And that's where MiniTV comes in. MiniTV has money-making potential through advertisements within the video content. By offering a free service, Amazon is able to attract a wider audience and generate more engagement. Amazon has a separate app for prime videos but they did not launch a separate app MiniTV , but rather they integrated it within the Amazon app itself. Now, why would they do that? Let's say Person A is attracted to MiniTV because of the free series they are offering. Once they open the Amazon app, they are directed to the MiniTV section, but to get there, they have to scroll through the homepage of Amazon, which displays various products and offers. Now, there can be two possible outcomes. Person A may end up getting distracted by the offers and end up buying something from Amazon. Alternatively, Person A may not get distracted and go straight to MiniTV, where Amazon still earns via advertisements. This is a strategy behind launching Amazon mini TV. |
