| Video Discription | All India Institute of Medical Sciences Act of 1956 allowed for the founding of the first AIIMS under under the leadership of India's first health minister Amrit Kaur during the tenure of India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.It was once suggested to be founded in Calcutta, but Chief Minister of West Bengal Bidhan Chandra Roy rejected the idea, hence it was instead founded in New Delhi. Rajkumari Bibiji Amrit Kaur was an Indian politician and activist who lived from 2 February 1887 to 6 February 1964. Her longstanding involvement with the Indian independence movement led to her appointment as India's first Health Minister in 1947, a position she held until 1957. In addition, she oversaw urban development and sports, and she played a key role in the founding of the National Institute of Sports in Patiala. In her time there, Kaur brought about a number of healthcare reforms in India and is well-known for her contributions to the industry and support of women's rights.
