When we talk about the medicinal properties of this herb, it is mostly addressed with the name of Arka. Aak is a common Hindi name given to this plant which is familiar to the Indians as a perennial bush growing almost anywhere in the wild. All of you must have heard about 'Aak leaves'. It is known by many names like Akwan, Madar, Swallow wort and many more. For many of us, it is a poisonous plant but it is not so. Aak leaves can simply be said as miracle leaves.Aak plants are found everywhere in different species. People use the bark and root bark for medicine. Despite serious safety concerns, calotropis is used for digestive disorders including diarrhea, constipation and stomach ulcers; for painful conditions including toothache, cramps, and joint pain; and for parasitic infections including elephantiasis and worms. Calotropis is a poisonous plant. It is used as an arrow poison, cattle poison , rarely for suicide and homicide and mostly an accidental poison. The milky latex sap of Calotropis gigantea is a known cause of toxic karate conjunctivitis and reversible vision loss. There are over 100 species of milkweed in North America and these are some of the best ones for your butterfly garden. The nectar in all milkweed flowers provides valuable food for butterflies, bees, and other pollinators. Butterflies don't only need nectar, but also need food at the caterpillar stage. The leaves of milkweed plants (Asclepius spp.) are the ONLY food that monarch caterpillars can eat. There are many different species of milkweed; however, this plant is most commonly known for its hollowed filaments covered in wax. ... Although this plant sounds cute and harmless, it is another one of the plants toxic to dogs, cats and horses. You can try growing any milkweed variety in pots as long as the container is large enough to accommodate the rhizomes/ tap root. ... When leaving containers outside over winter, using large, thick containers with more soil volume will protect the roots better than a small pot. The aak plant is a common plant available in the Indian subcontinent. It is also known as Arsh, Mandar, Madar or Akaua.It is considered very special and is counted among the most prominently used sacred plant in Hinduism. The white aak plant is often used in the worship of Lord Shiva. Improvement in oral glucose tolerance was also registered by treatment with Calotropis gigantean. The administration of leaf and flower extracts to streptococci-induced diabetic rats showed a significant reduction in serum glucose levels.
