The EXCITING 2024 Mitsubishi Triton! NEW & Improved Pickup!
The Mitsubishi Triton has always been seen as a great option for many pickup truck enthusiasts, and the 2024 Triton is no exception. In fact, it’s better than ever! So, let’s find out what makes the 2024 Triton so special…
Exterior Design
Breaking away from the chrome-focused 'dynamic shield' front design of the past, the new Triton adopts a 'beast mode' interpretation. Mitsubishi has ‘steered’ away from the more typical Japanese styling that we’ve seen on Tritons in the past, and instead embraced a modern and more handsome design. Mitsubishi describes the bold grille as an expression of powerful performance.
The lighting elements have also been refined for a contemporary appearance, showcasing three L-shaped LED signatures positioned above chrome bezels within the LED headlights.
Moving to the sides, the Triton showcases prominent fender flares that pay homage to the previous model's squared-off wheel arches. When viewed from the rear three-quarter angle, the broad shoulders evoke a hint of the Ford F-150’s aesthetic, although the distinct T-shaped LED tail lights set it apart.
Complementing the new Triton's exterior presentation are fresh alloy wheels, which, while somewhat reminiscent of the existing rims, contribute to its updated look.
Mitsubishi has even crafted a version that would notably attract U.S. buyers—the Triton Beast Mode design concept. This iteration of the four-door model incorporates appealing elements such as contrasting fender flares, a sport bar, a bed liner, roof rails, and various other enhancements.
Mitsubishi provides a range of similar accessories for the Triton, including a factory-installed bed liner, reflecting the brand's commitment to catering to diverse preferences and needs.
The use of a new high-tensile steel material has led to a lighter body for the Triton in comparison to the previous L200 generation.
The truck showcases a revamped carbo bed that has been lowered by 1.77 inches to 32.2 in, enhancing cargo handling.
A step added to the bumper corner, reinforced by a frame, further amplifies its practicality.
The dual cab Triton has expanded in all dimensions, boasting a 0.5-inch increase in length and a notable 2-inch wider stance.
Excitingly, the new Triton's wheelbase now reaches 118 inches. This increase is expected to enhance interior space, while the repositioned rear axle is set to improve its load-carrying capability.
Additionally, the tray size has been extended by 1,5 inches in length, reaching 61 inches. The load height has been lowered, and a flat grip-taped area on the bumper serves as a platform for loading objects.
Engine and powertrains
Mitsubishi has only mentioned the new diesel engine so far - a 2.4-liter mill available in three configurations: 148 horsepower and 243 pound-feet, 181 hp and 316 lb-ft, and the strongest configuration with 201 hp and 346 lb-ft.
While it might not compete with the Ford Ranger or the Toyota HiLux, the increase of 22 hp and 29 pound-feet from the previous model's outputs is definitely a plus!
The new Triton's braked towing capacity has been elevated by 800 lbs, to the industry-standard 7716 lbs.
It offers a choice between a six-speed torque converter automatic and a six-speed manual transmission.
The manual variant includes a cable linkage to enhance noise, vibration, and harshness suppression, along with smoother shifting.
The Super Select system provides the flexibility for drivers to use 4H mode on all types of surfaces without locking the center differential. This enhances grip on paved surfaces, maintaining control.
When driving on loose terrain, shifting to 4HLc (which can be done while in motion) further enhances traction by engaging a locked center differential. This mode works well when combined with mud and sand drive modes.
For more demanding conditions, engaging 4LLc activates the low-range transfer case, suitable for low-speed crawling. This mode can also be paired with the rock mode for better performance in challenging off-road scenarios.
Mitsubishi also introduces "active yaw control," a feature that utilizes individual wheel braking to mimic the behavior of a locked front differential. This technology reduces traction loss in low-speed slippery conditions for enhanced control.
